Research Interests: early writing development in young dual language learners, teacher education, and oral language and early literacy development in L1 and L2
I am interested in advancing my research to examine how at-risk, young dual language children benefit from a teaching approach based on systemic programmatic foundations, clear language approaches for teaching and learning, and implementation of sound strategies to build vocabulary, comprehension, and narrative skills.
I added the Applied Linguistics emphasis simply because I enjoy learning about language and it would enhance my learning and deepen understanding of the topic I was investigating for my dissertation. It turns out, I will be teaching a course on applied linguistics next year to support teachers of young children feel more competent in bilingual classrooms in California!
