Testimonial:
I am very grateful for having had the opportunity to take part in the Applied Linguistics program at UCSB. Although I had numerous employment options following the completion of my Ph.D. from the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, the emphasis in Applied Linguistics definitely gave my applications a competitive edge and was partially responsible for the interview offers I received from several top U.S. universities. My position at LSU involves the training of future secondary teachers of Spanish, and half of my course load each year involves teaching classes in our Spanish secondary education concentration. I was told by a number of colleagues shortly after starting my current position that my documented background in applied linguistics was a determining factor in my hire. I would highly recommend that all interested doctoral students seriously consider completing the emphasis, as it can only enhance one’s CV in an increasingly competitive academic job market.
